In the beginning
UTOPIES was created in 1993, originally as a non-profit association, to encourage companies to integrate social and environmental issues into their strategy, and to support them in this revolution.

2020
UTOPIES employs over 50 people, receiving its 3rd B Corp certification (with a record score of 122,3/200) while ranking 3rd Best Workplace in its category in France, as well as 1st Best Workplace For Women according to Great Place to Work 2020.
2019
The year of its 25th anniversary, UTOPIES is awarded Best Workplace 2019, topping the French Great Place to Work ranking for companies with less than 50 employees.
2018
UTOPIES renews its ranking at the top of the best sustainable development agencies and joins the top 25 most respected marketing agencies in France (Décideurs Magazine).
2017
UTOPIES continues to grow steadily, employing over 30 consultants.
2015
UTOPIES opens an office in Bordeaux @UTOPIES_Bdx.
2014
UTOPIES becomes the 1st B Corp certified company in Franc and becomes a “country partner” of the label for its development in France
2013
For its 20th anniversary, UTOPIES passes the 20 employee mark!
UTOPIES takes 8th position in the world ranking (and 1st in France) of “leading reporting partners” established by Corporate Register.
2012
Launch of Local Footprint®, UTOPIES own socio-economic impact assessment tool, which has since become a reference in the field in France and beyond.
2011
Official presentation of Elisabeth Laville’s Towards sustainable consumption report to Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, French Minister of Ecology.
Elisabeth Laville is included in Madame Figaro‘s list of “50 women who make a difference”. UTOPIES tops the first French ranking of the best sustainability agencies (Décideurs Magazine).
2008
Elisabeth Laville enters the Board of Directors of Nature & Découvertes, is awarded the Veuve Clicquot prize for businesswomen and is made Knight of the Legion of Honor.
2007
UTOPIES employs 15 people Launch of “Mes courses pour la Planète” and the Observatory of responsible consumption. Elisabeth Laville is included in ELLE magazine’s list of “40 women who make a difference”.
2005
Launch of the “Responsible Campuses” initiative.
2003
UTOPIES has 10 employees. Creation of Grains of Change, the first information agency for the public on the “companies for the best”.
2002
First CSR reports of CAC40 companies produced by UTOPIES for Lafarge and Carrefour.
Publication of L’Entreprise Verte by Elisabeth Laville who is included in Newbiz magazine’s list of “100 movers and shakers in France”.
2000
Launch of UTOPIES News Service, the first e-newsletter in French entirely dedicated to CSR.
1999
2nd edition of the Better World Business Forum.
First stakeholder panel in France, organized by UTOPIES for SITA group.
1998
UTOPIES works with Danone on its CSR strategy
and with Max Havelaar on the launch of its range of fair-trade food products in French supermarkets.
1997
Launch of UTOPIES.com, the first website in French dedicated to CSR.
Launch of Carrefour’s own line of organic products, a first for French supermarkets.
1996
Organization of the Better World Business Forum, the first international conference bringing together the pioneers of CSR entrepreneurship.
1995
UTOPIES produces the first sustainability report for a French company: Nature & Découvertes.
1993
First publication in French devoted to CSR.
UTOPIES becomes a reality!
