Identifying industrial symbioses across its territory

UTOPIES helped a pharmaceutical laboratory to identify industrial symbioses at local level, as part of its strategy to establish local roots.

The aim was to make the most not only of raw materials, but also of local know-how and all available resources that could enhance the efficiency and circularity of the industrial site. These symbioses were characterised in two stages:

• Identification of potential synergies between the site and the local economic fabric: local sourcing, pooling of purchasing, skills, equipment and innovation, waste recovery, etc.
• Identification of partner companies: determination of the top 10 sectors with strong potential for synergy with the French production site; identification of the companies most likely to develop synergies with the industrial site.
