Veolia’s ambition is to become the benchmark company in ecological transformation, and has made this its purpose. The Group designs and deploys useful and concrete solutions for water, waste and energy management. Since 2020, as part of its commitment to social performance, Veolia has entrusted UTOPIES with the task of assessing its socio-economic footprint worldwide. The aim is for the group to report on the extent to which it has achieved its objective of creating jobs and sustained wealth in local areas.
UTOPIES has reprocessed Veolia’s data for the 50 countries in which the group operates, in order to model the indirect and induced impacts associated with its activities in these territories. In addition to the extended geographical coverage, the calculations were detailed for France at business unit level.
The study carried out in 2022 covers 98% of Veolia’s turnover. It presents the total number of jobs supported by Veolia worldwide, distinguishing for each country between direct, indirect and induced jobs. Overall, Veolia’s activities in 2021 supported more than 1 million jobs (full-time equivalent).
This support for employment goes hand in hand with a contribution to wealth creation amounting to €53 billion of GDP worldwide (30% of Veolia’s direct added value, 27% of indirect GDP, 43% of induced GDP).
UTOPIES has worked with WeDoData, a Dataviz specialist, to design an online dashboard that interactively displays the results of the socio-economic footprints carried out each year in the various countries where Veolia operates, which can be found here.
