This is the first study to be carried out and published as part of #IBMSERIES, a program of exploration and experimentation on the subject of impact business models that UTOPIES wants to run as part of its think-tank, in partnership with B LAB and a number of companies (the first of which is Chloé), over the course of 2022/2023.

In concrete terms, our work will be based on the B Corp questionnaire (the BIA or B Impact Assessment), and more specifically on a particular feature of the BIA: the section devoted to Impact Business Models (we’ll use the acronym IBM to refer to them in this note).

This section seeks to assess the extent to which a given company integrates social and environmental issues at the heart of its business model. With nearly 6,000 B Corp-certified companies and over 200,000 companies worldwide having already completed the BIA and this section on IBMs, this benchmark is an invaluable methodological tool for identifying and analyzing best practices, understanding their key determinants and structuring or reinforcing an approach aimed at aligning business model and impact. Some of this work will be public, free and open-source (like the BIA and this note) – while others will be developed and deployed with certified B CORP companies and the other partners in this program: case study database, training courses, workshops on IBMs for companies…
